JUSTICE FOR Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez!

The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression condemns in no uncertain terms the brutal murder of Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez at the hands of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers in Franklin Park, IL. Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez was a loving father and husband, ripped from the lives of his family and community like so many of our loved ones have been ripped from our lives and forced to suffer in immigration detention.

Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez was murdered during an unjust traffic stop and he was punished publicly and openly for daring to exercise his democratic rights to refuse racial profiling.

Not only is this murder a result of Trump’s mass deportation scheme, and a continuation of the racist occupation of Black and brown communities, it’s exactly why the people of Chicago have fought so hard to prevent our city from becoming further occupied by Trump’s troops. We stand in unconditional solidarity with the family and community of Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, and we demand that the agents involved are charged for the murder they committed.

Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke and Attorney General Kwame Raoul have the power to bring these charges, just as they have the power to close the Broadview ICE facility that the people have demanded they close. And as the chief executor of Illinois, Governor JB Pritzker has the power to enforce the law. We call on all these powers that be to take a stand for justice, charge the officers involved in this murder, close the Broadview facility, and get ICE off of our streets! We call especially on the Governor and Attorney General, who have spoken out openly against Trump’s mass deportation scheme, to be consistent in this stance by taking immediate action.

ICE OUT NOW! ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
